First Grape Harvest at Hanwell Wine Estate

Vineyard tour in Nottingham

Grape Expectations in Hickling Pastures!

We expected to harvest our first ever crop of grapes in late September 2015, but the summer had been cool so our picking dates have slipped further and further, we now expect to be picking sometime during late October. If you’d like to help, we’d love to have you, visit our facebook page for the latest status, your help is always appreciated.

When the grapes have been picked our precious harvest will travel the 11 miles to Eglantine Vineyard, Costock, Nottinghamshire, to my parents’ winery.  Tony Skuriat will weave his magic through the winter, he will process the grapes separately to create a selection of wines.  Chardonnay grapes will make a white wine, the red grapes: Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier, may be made into both white and pink wines, giving us the most blending options and allowing us to experiment with the tastes that these varieties produce from the Hickling “terroir”.

Hanwell Wine gift experience.  If you’re looking for a Christmas present with a local touch, we have vouchers available now for our new 2016 vineyard tours.  The experience will immerse guests in the vineyard annual cycle, starting with a glass of wine on arrival, a guided vineyard tour and will finish with wine tasting.  Find out more here.

Cheers!
