Welcome to Rural Antics, located within Hanwell Wine Estate, Nottinghamshire .

Carpe diem – seize the day! Learn a new skill and have fun with like-minded folk.

Here at Hanwell Wine Estate, we love hosting Rural Antics workshops!

They enable us to open up the wonderful countryside setting of our vineyard to you, giving us all the opportunity to get closer to nature.

Hand-making great wine is a real craft and Rural Antics provides a space for us to involve interested people in our wine-making, alongside other artisan past times, such as chair weaving, foraging and painting.

Carpe diem – seize the day!

Frame weaving

Frame weaving is one of the oldest surviving crafts in the world. In this workshop, you’ll be introduced to the tools & materials before being taught how to work with a loom. Our skilled tutor will help you to create something to be proud of!

Poetry Writing for Beginners

The theme for this four-hour spring workshop is ‘Stepping into the Green’. You will take a stroll through the vineyard estate, seeking inspiration in nature. Fiona will guide you through a simple process of observation and writing, specially created for beginners.

Beginner's Landscape Oil Painting

Join us and create your own landscape oil painting in a day.  Local artist Sara Penrose will guide you step-by-step.  By demonstrating and explaining the tools and materials, composition, colour mixing and various techniques for creating your very own landscape painting.

Foraging for Food with Richard Mawby

Our one day foraging for food experience will be hosted by Richard Mawby and includes a homemade two course lunch served with local wine. Wander through the vineyard as Richard points out all the edible plants which could make a healthy addition to your diet.

Pencil Drawing for Beginners

Louise will work alongside you, explaining basic drawing skills and showing you how to use pencils to bring to life the detail and colours of the English countryside. All materials will be provided for you and the workshop includes a two-course homemade lunch served with local wine.
